Dr Pete getting the snip for VBB!

VBB volunteer Dr Peter Van Orsouw from Belgrave South Veterinary Clinic (VIC) says it’s time for it to go – his hair that is! – all for worthy causes.

Dr Pete has been growing a luxurious mane of hair (like a true Leo!) for the past four years with the view of raising funds for Vets Beyond Borders. He also wanted to donate his hair to people who have lost theirs through cancer or Alopecia.

And so, he has decided the time has come for the big snip!

“I also think my hair is starting to plot against me. I wake up some nights almost strangled in it!” he said.

Dr Pete has been following the works of Vets Beyond Borders for over a decade and has always wanted to volunteer too but hasn’t been able to make the time.

“It is still my goal to volunteer in India or Africa!” he said. “VBB do such a fantastic job in disaster response and in local third world communities, improving the health of animals not only improves their quality of life and reduces their stress but also improves the health of the whole community.”

Dr Pete’s fundraising goal is $5,000 and he kicked it off with a personal donation of $500!

“I am sure I have saved at least this much in hair cutting costs in the last four years!” he said.

Pariah Hair in South Fremantle, WA, has also kindly offered to cut Dr Pete’s hair free of charge!

If Dr Pete reaches his goal, he said he’s going for the clean ‘No. 1 romper stomper look’, much to his wife Lorraine’s chagrin. Any less than $5K will still see the pony tail come off, he promised.

In future, he would like his hair tied back in a short pony tail but could be enticed to give the snip another go for a worthy cause! (Or if his hair is plotting to strangle him.)

WHEN IS THE BIG CHOP?

Thursday, May 9th
3:00pm Eastern time (1:00pm WA time)
Australian Veterinary Association National Conference, Perth.

Belgrave South Veterinary Clinic will be live streaming ‘the snip’ on their social media pages so you won’t miss out!
