Name:Nikki Tapp - Vet Nurse
Country: New Zealand
Age: 25
From which institute did you graduate? Auckland University of Technology
Current/most recent professional post: Everywhere, I’m a locum in England
Project Name: Vets Beyond Borders and Ladakh Animal Care Society
Project Location: Saboo, Ladakh India
Have you ever volunteered before? No I haven’t volunteered, in this situation, I have done kennel work at RSPCA.
Tell us about your volunteer experience? I had so much fun. India takes a little while to get used to but once you get over the cultural shock the experience is one that you will never forget. Something to tell the Grandkids! The work was really rewarding and the other volunteers and workers were all really welcoming. And the dogs were gorgeous.
What do you think is the best aspect of the program? The friendships made and getting the chance to stay with the most accommodating and lovely people in the world, Ama Leh is wonderful, Also Janet did such a wonderful job of making things run smoothly. I really enjoyed working with the dogs and learning new skills, even though very crude!! But very useful. What do you like most about being a volunteer?

I hope that my presence helped the Ladakhi people control the population and health of dogs in their area. And also the health and wellbeing of the people in the Leh area. Since being a vet nurse volunteer I have decided to go back to uni to study vet, so that in the future I can contribute more to the volunteering scheme. But mostof all I just wanted to play with the puppies!!
