Tell us about your volunteer experience?

My experience at the SARAH Clinics in Sikkim is one I will never forget. I was thrilled to be a part of the program and found every day to be both challenging and enriching in some way. The doctors, vet aides and program organizers are always willing to go the extra mile and truly care about the work they are doing. I was very proud to be a part of such a fantastic team!

What do you think is the best aspect of the program?
I think the best aspect of the program is the entire team’s commitment to making it successful! This group never loses sight of its goals. Not only do they rise to every challenge, they continue to grow, learn and look for new ways to enhance the program and bring it to other areas in need.

The clinic in Namchi was facing the need to move when we were there due to construction in the neighbouring area. Instead of feeling defeated, the entire team pulled together. They packed up equipment, tables and supplies and we went to Namchi on a mission. Our team of 5-6 vets and 5 vet aides managed sterilize a record number of dogs on the two days we were there. The Boys and even Dr.Purbah were out the door at 3am to catch dogs and not wrapping up the day until 5pm. Not once did they complain. Every day they had smiles on their faces. This is the sort of commitment it takes to make this program successful!

What do you like most about being a volunteer?
Each and every person on the team went out of their way to help us understand and explore the culture, sights and way of life in India. The opportunity to live and work in India among the local people and for a cause I believe in was second to none. I’m looking forward to being a part of the SARAH Program again in the future and to seeing the friends I made in Gangtok, and beautiful Sikkim again!
