SARAH Programme, Sikkim
Project Location:
Sikkim, India

Have you volunteered before? No

Tell us about your volunteer experience?
I primarily worked on blood analysis for blood parasites, but also got to do surgeries when the time was there. It was a very giving experience to work with the local vets and the vets from all over the world, and it was a lot of fun and gave me a deeper insight into the life of the locals and their ideas and beliefs.

What do you think is the best aspect of the program?
The education of the local people and the impact on their way to handle the animals. In Sikkim it was miles ahead of what I saw in other regions of India, people were more friendly towards the dogs, and they were generally in better condition than anywhere else.

What do you like most about being a volunteer?
The insight into a different culture and the possibility to do good for the animals at the same time. My heart still reaches out to some of the dogs I meet on the streets and in the clinic
