Over the decades, the Municipal authorities in Kathmandu controlled the over growing street dog population through strychnine poisoning. KAT Centre was opened in May 2004, with an aim to reduce the street and community dog population and eliminate rabies through humane and effective method ‘Animal Birth Control program and Public Education program’. In 3 years of our operation, KAT has successfully and noticeably reduced the dog population. This has created considerable awareness in the community. People have seen that sterilisation of the dog population makes sense and have noticed not only the significant decrease in the dog population but also an improvement in the general health of the dogs.
