Save Our Friends Association (SOFA)

SOFA was established in 2003 by few animal-lovers in order to bring about a more animal-friendly society in Sri Lanka. The dog-pound of the Kandy Municipal Council is being used as a transit-home, where strays are being sterilized and the strays are being looked after until they are fit to be released back into the same area, where they have been picked up, after rabies-vaccination, mange- and other treatments. Injured and sick street-dogs are also being accomodated and treated, abandonded puppies are being sheltered and prepared for adoption. A similar, but smaller programme is being carried out for cats. In field-clinics, university- and private clinics free sterilizations are being offered for domestic dogs and cats by SOFA.
