We’ve all seen the truly terrible devastation in Nepal since the major earthquake hit the region on Saturday, 25 April. Millions of people and animals have suffered unimaginably.
In response, members of the VBB team from the SARAH project in Gangtok, Sikkim are on their way to nearby Nepal to provide immediate assistance to local animal welfare organsiations in Kathmandu and the surrounding Kathmandu Valley.
These veterinarians and paravets are well equipped to provide expertise, having provided key resources in the wake of the earthquake which hit their own area in 2011. They are being supported by Fondation Brigitte Bardot, which is also assisting some Nepali welfare organisations to provide treatment to animals.
Self-funding VBB volunteer veterinarians in Australia are on stand-by awaiting deployment instructions by NGOs in Nepal.
There will be long-term need to assist Nepal animals, so VBB remains ready to do what we can.
