David Darcy was born in 1972 in the Blue Mountains township of
Springwood. His earliest memories are of spending time in his father's
darkroom and photography studio where he learnt the fundamentals of
photography.
As a teenager David's photos were accepted into traditional exhibitions
and by age 16 David had won a New South Wales state photographic
championship. But photography wasn't David's first career choice after
leaving school. David found hiimself pursuing many different
occupations whilst fulfilling his wanderlust desires before returning to
the Blue Mountains and his cameras in the late 90's.
In 1999 he combined his talent as a photographer with his yearning for
travel and along with his devotion to dogs became one of Australia's
leading author-photographers. His books, Mongrel Country (2001),
Outback Mongrel (2003) and Little Mongrels (2005) published in Australia
and the United States, were best selling titles and his work received
widespread international recognition.
Following a heartbreaking photographic assignment in India for Vets
Beyond Borders (VBB) in 2007, David put together a book entitled "A
little help for our friends" (2009) (self published) which was aimed at
raising awareness and funds for animal welfare. To date the book has
raised over $10,000 for VBB.
David has undertaken international and national photographic campaigns
for IFAW, VBB and the RSPCA. From private sittings to big budget
commercial shoots, David has worked on photographic assignments in
Australia, Cambodia, China, England, France, Germany, India, Indonesia,
Italy, Japan and the US.
David Darcy limited edition photographs are in private collections
world-wide. David's photography has featured in many leading Australian
publications such as Burkes Backyard, The Sunday Telegraph, The
Canberra Times, The Sunday Herald and The Land. Advertising posters and
billboard campaigns across the country showcase his work and David and
his beloved dogs have also featured on national an international
television. His dedication and commitment to his subject matter has
made him one of the most sought after photographers in his field.
VBB thank David for his support and wish him all the best with his latest exhibition.
