Animal Rescue - Mt Merapi, Indonesia
Published 06 Dec 2010
Mount Merapi on the island of Java, Indonesia, has been erupting since October 26th. Many animals have fallen victim to the hot ash and air and others have been left behind by their fleeing owners, many caged and without food or water.
The
local association Animal Friends Jogja (AFJ), established in February 2010, in
conjunction with Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) & Centre for Orangutan
Protection (COP), have started relief and rescue operations in the area, including
safe disposal of the many animal carcasses, and sweeping affected areas for
sick and injured animals in need to food, water and medical treatment. AFJ
desperately needs help to treat animals with burns, lung injuries and breathing
difficulties, as well as money to buy medication, food and to provide temporary
shelter for the animals rescued.
VBB is not affiliated with AFJ, but
recognises the enormous task they are facing trying to help thousands of
suffering animals in this disaster area.
AFJ have put out a call for donations to assist them to buy essential animal feed and medical supplies. If you would like to donate, please send Indonesian Rupiah
